Why recycle tins and cans?

Food tins and drinks cans are made of steel or aluminium.  Both of these are 100% recyclable.  The metal can be reprocessed again and again without losing any quality.

Recycling 1 tonne of aluminum saves 9 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

What do we do on Coll?

These items are recycled at the council banks in the Middle Pier at Arinagour. A kerbside collection is also due to start at the end of 2016. Check Argyll and Bute's website for further information.

Tins, cans, biscuit and sweet tins, empty aerosol cans.

Recyclates are then shipped to Tiree.  They then send them to the mainland for processing.

How can I get involved?

Please wash all items well before recycling.

RecyColl have investigated the possibility of separating tins and cans in order to process aluminium separately.  There are opportunities to make a small income from this, but the group currently does not have the volunteer capacity to do so.  If this is an area that particularly interests you, please contact a member of RecyColl.
